The Queenmother of Sunyani, Nana Akosua Dua Sika Aso Brayie has come out with a release today as a reaction to the Bono Regional House of Chief Judicial committee’s decison made on 8th April 2025 which denied her injunction application in her ongoing case against The Akwamuhene and Yaw Agyare.

Below is the release from the Queenmother of Sunyani.

GBC cannot reduce channels – Director-General

On 8th April 2025, the Judicial Committe of the Bono House of Chiefs denied my Application for Injunction in my ongoing case against the Akwamuhene and Yaw Agyare.

I wish to put on record that contrary to the disinformation being spread by some quarters to the unsuspecting public, with the aim to advance their parochial interest, the denial of the injunction does not equate to a final ruling or judgment on the merits of the case pending before the Bono House of Chiefs.

I wish to emphasise that the Judicial Committee’s ruling of 8th April 2025 on the Injunction only affects a temporary relief I sought. It does not affect the main/underlying issues of the case itself, which said issues include primarily the following:

      1) Whether the Akwamuhene as a subchief can purport to validly install a paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area?

      2) Whether the purported installation of Yaw Agyare was in accordance with the settled customs and traditions of our land and therefore valid?

It is worth noting that I vehemently disagree with the 8th April 2025 decision of the Judicial Committee of the Bono House of Chiefs. I have accordingly lodged an appeal against the said decision at the National House of Chiefs. I am optimistic that the National House of Chiefs will apply the settled law, customs, and traditions and will overturn the decision of the Judicial Committee of the Bono House of Chiefs.

While we look forward to the Judicial Committee’s decision being set aside by the National House of Chiefs and also look forward to the ultimate determination of the main issues in the substantive case pending before the Bono House of Chiefs, I wish to assure the good people of Sunyani and the general public that I am fully committed to pursuing this case through all the appropriate legal channels to ensure that the laws, customs and traditions of our land governing the installation of a Paramount chief are not desecrated but upheld in high esteem.

I take this opportunity to urge the good people of Sunyani and the general public to disregard any disinformation in circulation which suggests that the 8th April 2025 decision of the Judicial Committee of the Bono House of Chiefs vindicates Akwamuhene and Yaw Agyare. There is no such vindication as the real/main issues in the case are yet to be determined.

Be assured that as your Queen mother, I am forever ready, willing, and able to defend our heritage, and this is exactly what I intend to do in this case.

May God bless the Sunyani Tradional Area.

      Thank you.
